Classification of Animals

  1.  All animals, including humans, belong to the kingdom Animalia.
  2. Animals that depend on plants and other animals for food are known as heterotrophs.
  3. The backbone is also called the vertebral column.
  4. Animals with a backbone are called vertebrates.
  5. Animals without a backbone are called invertebrates.
  6. Invertebrates are divided into eight major phyla.
  7. Coelenterates have a radially symmetrical body.
  8. The tentacles in cnidarians have stinging cells called cnidoblasts.
  9. Earthworms are considered as a farmer's friend.
  10. Flatworms are the simplest worms or animals without legs.
  11. Annelids have special organs called nephridia for excretion.
  12. Exoskeleton is a rigid external covering of the body found in some invertebrates that provide support and protection.
  13. In arthropods, an image is formed in several pieces. This type of vision is called mosaic vision.
  14. Echinoderms have an unsegmented body.
  15. Octopus is the largest among invertebrates.
  16. Young frogs called tadpoles breathe through gills.
  17. The vertebral column is made up of several separate bones called vertebrae.
  18. All vertebrates have a well-developed closed circulatory system.
  19. Amphibians can live both on land and in water.
  20. The amphibians have evolved from fish.
  21. The amphibians' heart is three chambered.
  22. A crocodile has a four-chambered heart.
  23. Aves have a four-chambered heart.
  24. Duck-billed platypus is a mammal but lays eggs.
  25. Humans belong to class Mammalia.
  26. Charles Darwin was the first to describe evolution in his book 'The Origin of Species'.
